Potentially Habitable Planet Found Near Earth

It's only 20 light years away!
AFP reported:
WASHINGTON (AFP) – US astronomers said Wednesday they have discovered an Earth-sized planet that they think might be habitable, orbiting a nearby star, and believe there could be many more planets like it in space.
The planet, found by astronomers at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Carnegie Institution of Washington, is orbiting in the middle of the "habitable zone" of the red dwarf star Gliese 581, which means it could have water on its surface. Read more here.
Texting While Driving Death Toll Rising

The seven year toll (2001~2007) is 16,000 deaths.
Sending text messages while driving led to accidents that killed an estimated 16,000 people from 2001 to 2007.
An analysis of federal data on road fatalities, in the American Journal of Public Health, concluded that deaths due to "distracted driving" surged...Read more here.
Texting while driving bans don't seem to work.
Researchers at the Highway Loss Data Institute reported today they found no reduction in car collisions after texting-while-driving laws took effect.
The researchers calculated rates of collision claims for vehicles in California, Louisiana, Minnesota and Washington, immediately before and immediately after those states banned texting while driving.
My guess is the bans don't work because people ignore them. It is difficult to enforce these laws when people can hid the phone out of sight. Hiding the phone while texting may actually distract the driver more.

Could Moses have really parted the Red Sea?

New computer simulation indicates the biblical story could have a basis in scientific fact.
Fox News reported:
Computer simulations, part of a larger study on how winds affect water, show wind could push water back at a point where a river bent to merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder said.
"The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus," Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the study, said in a statement.
